Not having a web site, or for that matter, not even knowing what a web site was, back in the early 1990’s, was more the norm than not.
I didn’t start learning about such things till long after the dotcom craze.
I found myself thinking ,if only I had got in the game at the very beginning, what an advantage that would have been.
Right now I believe a similar situation is now accurring…let’s just call it the dotmobi craze.
Ask most people today what a mobi site is and you’ll most likely get that same clueless blank stare I had back in the dotcom days.
We have reached the point now where mobile phones out number home computers 4 to one, and more and more of these “smart phones” are capable of surfing the internet as well as recieving and sending sms(short message service) text messaging.
Text messaging software has evolved to make the once, very expensive mobile marketing platform, affordable for all, and the spam ladden marketing techniques of the past are now replaced with opt-in only maketing stradeiges. Nothing like getting unsolicited text ads that cost you money…not!
This new evolution in information delivery
is slated to be 10 times bigger than the dotcom craze. Most likely in the next two years everyone will have embraced it to the point where sites that aren’t “mobi-ised” will be considered obsolete.
If that is the case and there are only somewhere between 1-2 million .mobi sites now, I’d say the growth potential, even in these hard times, will be nothing short of spectacular.
